What is the Infrasound Recorder application, how does it work?

According to the introduction of RedVox, Infrasound Recorder is a Education app on the Android platform. There is currently a 2.6.8 version released on Dec 07, 2019, you can see the details below.

The RedVox Infrasound Recorder captures sub-aural low frequency sound from volcanic eruptions, sonic booms, meteors, earthquakes, tsunamis, surf, and anything big that blows up.

Recording and streaming over wifi or cell starts as soon as you hit play.

The main display shows the infrasonic pressure recorded with the internal microphone and (if available) barometer. Microphones plugged in through the data port or audio jack will override the internal microphone.

Sound files are sent anonymously to the RedVox cloud server at redvox.io.

Your app version and RedVox device ID is shown in the lower center of the front page, and can be changed in Settings.

RedVox Recorder can record in the background to continuously monitor infrasound events and ambient noise. Although continued recording will consume more power, with the screen off it can run off the internal battery for many hours.

We can also save the location of the device so that we can correctly map the infrasound that your device is recording and perform source localization.

In the absence of cell or wifi, Recorder will save to memory and retransmit when communications are restored if the backfill setting is on.

You have access to all the files recorded in your device. Under Settings, Files, the Copy to Documents function will make these files available through iTunes.

Continued use of GPS running in the background can decrease battery life.

PRIVACY
At 80 Hz, audio is low-pass filtered in the device to remove any possibility of conversation or other identifiable human voicing being picked up. At 800 Hz sampling, you are within the bass guitar frequency range, so could pick up baritone voice. Should you choose to use 8 kHz sampling, conversational audio could be recorded. Location can be disabled either at the Device Settings or within the Recorder Settings. In the Recorder Setting you can specify a fixed location (see EXPERT LEVEL).
The RedVox Device ID is either a truncated version of the scrambled vendor ID or user-specified in the settings. It is not traceable to any account or personal information.

EXPERT LEVEL
Array processing requires precise timing synchronization and sensor locations. If you know the sensor location within a couple of meters and you have the RedVox Time Synch Code, you can input the fixed sensor coordinates and direct the synch process to an IP:PortNumber of your choice.
